State Parks
Pennsylvania 

Pennsylvania has 116 state parks and 3 conservation areas.  Here is a list of a few of the state parks.  For a list of all of the parks check out the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resouces website.  Thier website also allows you to make online reservations.

Beltzville State Park
The park consists of 2972 acres including the 949 acre Beltzville Lake and Pohopoco Creek.  The lake has a sandy beach and picnic pavilions.  Activities include hiking, picnicking, swimming, boating, water skiing, fishing, hunting, cross country skiing, ice fishing, and ice boating.

Big Pocono State Park
The park consists of 1306 acres of rugged terrain on Camelback Mountain located in northeastern park of the state.  From the summit, visitors can see views of eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York.  Activities at the park includ hiking, horseback riding, biking, picnicking, hunting, and downhill skiing.  Park is open sunrise to sunset. Note that the park is closed during the winter (Late December till weather permits opening in spring). The entrance to the park is off of Exit 299 of I-8- at Tannersville. 

Frances Slocum State Park
The park consists of 1035 acres, including the 165 acre Slocum Lake. Activities at the park include hiking, trail biking, picnicking, swimming, boating, fishing, hunting, sledding, ice fishing, ice skating and camping.  The park is located 10 miles from Wilkes-Barre.  Take Interstate 81 Exit 170B, go north on PA 309 for 7.2 miles.

Gouldsboro State Park
The park consists of 2800 acres including the 250 acre Gouldsboro Lake. Also nearby is the Tobyhanna State Park.  Activities include hiking, picknicking, swimming, boating, fishing, hunting, wildlife watching, and ice fishing.  The park entrance is located 1/2 mile south og Gouldsboro on PA 507.

Hickory Run State Park
The park consists 15,900 acres.  If you enjoy hiking, this is a must visit park.  There are over 40 miles of hiking trails.  Also be sure to check out the Boulder Field, a natural wonder that is a must see.  Activities at the park include hiking, picnicking, swimming, fishing, hunting, disc golf, wildlife watching, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, ice skating, and camping.  The park is located off Interstate 80 Exit 274, then six miles east on PA534 and Interstate 476 (Northeast Extension of PA Turnpike) Exit 95, three miles west on PA 940, then six miles east on PA 534.  

Lackawanna State Park
The park consists of 1411 acres including the 198 acre Lackawanna Lake.  Activities include hiking, trail biking, horseback riding, picnicing, swimming, boating, fishing, hunting, cross-country skiing, sledding, ice fishing, and camping (cabins available).  The park is about 10 miles from Scranton.  Take Interstate 81 Exit 199, go 3 miles west on PA 524.

Lehigh  Gorge State Park
The park is charactrized by deep steep walled gorge with thick vegetation, rock outcroppings, and waterfalls.  Whitewater boating and biking are popular activities in this park.

Mt. Pisgah Park
The park consists of 1320 acres along Mill Creek at the base of Mt Pisgah. Activities include hiking, picnicking, swimming, boating, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, ice fishing, and ice skating.  The park is located 2 miles north of Route 6 on Wallace Rd (SR 3019).

Nescopeck State Park
The park consists of 3550 acres of wetlands and forest.  Popular activities are hiking, and fishing in the Nescopekc Creek.

Promised Land State Park
The park consists of 3000 acres and is surrounded by 12,464 acres of the Pennsylvania Delaware State Forest. The park has two lakes, Promise Lake (422 acres) and Lowe Lake (173 acres). Activites include hiking, biking, trail biking, horseback riding, picnicking, swimming, boating, fishing, hunting, wildlife watching, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, ice skating, and camping (cabins available).  The park is 10 miles north of Canadensis on PA 390. 

Ricketts Glen State Park
the park consists of 13,050 acres.  In the park you will find 22 named waterfalls, old growth timber, and a diverse wildlife. Activities include hiking, horseback riding, picnicking, swimming, boating, fishing, hunting, and camping (cabins available).  The park is located 30 miles north of Bloomsburg on PA 487.

Salt Springs State Park
The park consists of 405 acres including old growth hemlock trees that are estimated to be over 500 years old, and three water falls in a gorge that goes through the park.  Activities include hiking, fishing, picnicking, hunting, and camping.

Tobyhanna State Park
The park consists of 5440 acres including the 170 acre Tobyhanna Lake.  Gouldsboro State Park is nearby.  Activities include hiking, picnicking, swimming, boating, fishing, hunting, wildlife watching, snowmobiling, ice fishing, ice skating, and camping. The entrance is located 2.1 miles north of Tobyhanna on PA 423.

World End State Park
The park is a narrow S-shaped valley.  Some of the best times to go are in June when the mountain laurel are blooming and in the fall when the leave have changed color. Activities at the park include hiking, picnicing, swimming, whitewater boating, fishing, hunting, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, and camping (cabins available).
