Delaware River
The 330 mile long Delaware River creates the eastern border of Pennsylvania which seperates the state from New York and New Jersey. The river starts in lower New York and ends in Delaware where it empties into the Atlantic Ocean.  Along the river, there are several national parks. 

On the upper end of the Delaware River is a 73 mile stretch of free-flowing river with lots of whitewater.  Most of the riverbanks along the river are privately owned,  but the river is open to public recreation. 

The Delaware Water Gap consists of 40 miles of river and 67,000 acres in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey.  The area contains a 100 miles of hiking trails, historic villiages, waterfalls, beaches, and campgrounds.

The Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor is located near Easton, PA.  This area consists of areas around the Delaware and Lehigh Rivers.  The area provides recreational opportunities such as camping, canoeing, tubing, fishing, hiking, and biking, as well as the opportunity to explore the rich history of Pennsylvania lumberjacks, coal miners, and railroads.

Lower Delaware Wild & Scenic River is 67 miles of river that includes the Delaware Canal and Washington's Crossing of the Delaware.

Gettysburg National Military Park and Cemetery
The Gettysburg National Military Park and Gettysburg National Cemetery are located in Gettysburg, PA.  In 1863, the civil war Battle of Gettysburg was the turning point of the civil war. and the bloodiest, taking the lives of 51,000 men. This is also the site of President Abraham Lincoln's famous Gettysburg Address.   

Independence National Historical Park
Located in the heart of Philadelphia,  the Independence National Historical Park is full of historical sites including the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and Christ Church to name just a few.  This is must visit place for anyone interested in the history of the United States. 

Valley Forge National Park
Valley Forge is located just outside Philadelphia,  this is where George Washington and his army settled in for the winter of 1777.  The park inlcudes historical buildings, memorials, a visitor's center and both hiking and biking trails.  The park also includes a large White-tailed deer population.
